Meal Prep: Failure to Plan is Planning to Fail

When it comes to setting myself up for success and eating healthy meals that both satisfy my pallet and nourish my body, meal prep is essential. I don’t know about you, but I don’t love cooking and cleaning up messes all week long. Meal prepping, or preparing several meals at a time when I’m not rushed, keeps me from making bad meal choices during the week. It also frees up time for me to do the things in my life that are way more enjoyable

Meal Prepping is good for your body and your wallet. If I only had a nickel for every pizza I picked up on the way home because I was too tired to cook, I’d be rich. I might also be rich if I stopped wasting money on food that plays havoc with my body.

I do most of my meal prep on Sundays, when I batch cook half my lunches and dinner for the week. I usually roast a bunch of veggies with some sea salt and olive oil, throw them in large containers, and then divide them up based on my needs throughout the week. I also cook or grill about a half a week’s supply of proteins. For snacks and breakfasts, I make muffins, sorbets and ice cream (see my recipes for the delicious details) for the entire week. If my schedule allows, I batch cook a few more dinners for the week and maybe even some alternatives for the kiddies.

This strategy for healthy eating is essential for people who want to stay on track and make whole food choices during a busy workweek. If there is a week when life gets in the way and I can’t batch cook, I run out and grab stuff to throw a salad together, or quickly make some concoction from what’s left in my fridge.

Batch cooking saves my life and makes things so much easier for me to live the life I want to live.
